And so it began...

I am one of those lucky people that gets to work a job I love from the comfort of my home.  My family leaves the house at 7 am and I settle in to a work day - in my PJs with some show streaming on Netflix for background noise to keep me company.  I work where ever the mood strikes me - in the kitchen, on the couch, out by the pool, at the local Panera, on the side lines of one of my kids' sporting events.  It is awesome and has been since 1993!

But then at the end of most 10 to 12 hour work days - I find myself still sitting there in my PJs.  Most days no shower.  It really is kind of sad what can happen to the average work from home person. At 46 years old I am not getting any younger - it is pretty much all down hill from here without serious action on my part.

90% of the people I work with work from home - so we began discussing standing desks and that lead me to looking at treadmill desks.  What a great idea to walk my way through part of the work day.  I had done it before - walked on the treadmill during conference calls - but then I was jumping down to check things on my laptop and it just wasn't working.  But if I had the desk that would work, I was sure of it. I was on a mission.

Unfortunately I am terribly frugal (sounds better than cheap).  These desks start at about $600.  That is enough to scare me away, one it is a lot of money and two I have enough things in my house that sounded like a good idea and now sit around unused.

I really still liked the idea of a treadmill desk - so I started looking for DIY ideas.  The hamster wheel one was hysterical - but would take up far too much room and I am not sure how I would position it for a clear view of my constant companion (Netflix) plus I am just not that handy. Hamster Wheel Desk

A little more searching and I stumbled upon this $20 idiot proof idea DIY $20 treadmill desk

Off to Lowe's for supplies.  I skipped the eye hooks and settled on a $8 wood shelf and two $4 bungees for my wonderful new setup.

I was all set and as a side bonus - every day would now be take a hockey player to work day!  Go Caps!!!
